ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The apartment complex on McGee Road looks like any other in Rock Hill. But police are investigating a case of one unit in the complex. They have arrested three people, including the renter of that unit who may have been luring people to the apartment to rob them.
Police started the investigation after a man from Lancaster flagged down an officer on Celanese Road Friday afternoon telling them he had been robbed at gunpoint. The man told police he went to the apartments to meet a woman he met on the internet site Backpage.com. He said he had arranged with the woman to have sex for $80.
When he arrived, the woman, later identified as Gabrielle Simon Priester, met him. The victim said he went in and then went to use the bathroom.
As he walked out Phillip Johnson and Terell Margkett confronted him. The man said that as one man held what he thought was a gun at him and ordered him to "look down," the other went through him pockets.
The trio stole the man's iPhone and $100 in cash and made him leave the apartment. Police said that the criminals probably didn't think the man would go to police because he was breaking the law by engaging in prostitution.
But in this case they were wrong and police arrested all three.
All three suspects face charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They are being held in the York County Detention Center. At the time of this story, it is not known if the victim will face any charges.
