FORT MILL, S.C. – Classes were disrupted at Nation Ford High School Tuesday afternoon when a suspicious device was found in a parking lot.
Officers were called to remove the device at 1400 A O Jones Boulevard in Fort Mill. The incident forced students in classrooms closest to the device to be moved from one wing to another wing in the school.
Officials with the Fort Mill Police Department removed the device, which they later discovered was a shot put that had something taped to it. The incident lasted 45 minutes, according to a school spokesperson.
It was later determined the device was a training prop used by the Carolina Crown band located in the marching area in the parking lot.
The district said they followed protocols and err on the side of caution. Parents will be notified of the incident, the Fort Mill Schools district said.
