LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- There's lots of talk about a rash of threats in Lincoln County, and now, those rumors have prompted a response from the Sheriff's Office.
Officials with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office released the following statement to NBC Charlotte on Thursday afternoon:
Since the school shooting in Connecticut, deputies have chased down unsubstantiated and unfounded rumors about a rash of threats that have been reported. Sheriff David Carpenter said today (Thursday) that he wants to assure parents that Friday's school day, which is the last before the Christmas holidays, will be a safe one. After meeting with his command staff today it was decided to have an extra officer with the school resource officer at all high schools, and metal detectors at some schools. A deputy will also be at each elementary and middle school.
