Charlotte is hopping this weekend, and there are plenty of events that won’t cost you a dime. Many, but not all, are holiday-related. Check this list before making your plans. Make sure to follow each link for details. These events take place Friday, November 30th, 2012, to Sunday, December 2nd.

McAdenville Christmas Festival: McAdenville is called Christmas Town USA for good reasons. Every year thousands of people visit the small town to see the festive lights. At this festival, the lights will be turned on, and there will also be music, entertainment and free hot chocolate and kettle corn. Friday, 4:30pm.

Piedmont Town Center Tree Lighting: This festival features electronic train rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa, a balloon artist and hot chocolate, all free. Friday, 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Christmas in Davidson: This long-standing festival started Thursday night and continues Friday and Saturday night. Expect to find hayrides and carriage rides, visits with Santa, storytime with Mrs. Claus, ice skating on South Main Street, dog fashion show, ugly sweater contest and plenty of live music. Friday and Saturday, 6pm to 9pm.

Jumpin’ Java: Free swing dance lessons and a dance session at Caribou Coffee at 1920 Sardis Road. Friday, 7pm to 9pm.

ACC Fan Central: Whether you’re in town for the ACC championship, or you’re always in town, head to the Epicentre for ACC Fan Central, where you’ll be treated to music, street performers, holiday goodies, as well as the team pep bands, cheerleaders and mascots. Friday, 7pm to 9pm.

Plaza Midwood Holiday Central: Plaza Midwood’s celebration features local vendors, food trucks, and fun family activities – such as face painting, ornament decorating, candy canes and more. Santa will arrive in style again in his vintage red Cadillac. Entertainment will be provided by Plaza Family Band and dancers from Open Door Studios. The lighting ceremony of the “art tree” will take place at 7pm. Saturday, 5pm to 7:30pm.

Renaissance Venice in Scenes and Sounds: The UNC Charlotte Sackbut Quartet and the Central Piedmont Community College Early Music Consort will perform a joint concert in the atrium of UNC Charlotte Center City. Saturday, 7:30pm.

Joy Jubilee: Bright Blessings is holding this free family event that includes face painting, sand art, train rides and more. Bring some some gifts or treats to stuff stockings for homeless children. Sunday, 2pm to 5pm.

Providence Chamber Music Concert:: Top notch musicians perform chamber music at Providence United Methodist Church. Sunday, 7pm.

Museums on Us: Bank of America and Merrill Lynch customers get free admission to the Mint Museums, Levine Museum of the New South, and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Saturday and Sunday.
