CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Today there is a special all day “Streets of Speed” event.

From dusk to dawn, NBC Charlotte’s Ben Thompson will be out on local roads busting speeders with a radar gun.

In each newscast, he’ll be live in a different location, calling out commuters with a lead foot, who put your family in danger.

At 5:30 a.m., Thompson started out at Runnymede Lane in south Charlotte tracking commuters during their morning commute.

At  11 p.m., he’ll take viewers where cameras haven’t gone before;  inside Mecklenburg County traffic court where judges see speeders accused for going up to 140 mph.

You can follow all Thompson's updates on Twitter at @WCNCTraffic.
