CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The McDowell Nature Center is working with one local CMS school to teach kids more about environmental science.

Once a week students at Polo Ridge Elementary go to the center and get hands on experience at the nature preserve.

It's an event the students really seem to enjoy.

"Going outside to the nature preserve is a really fun way to learn,” said Polo Ridge fifth grader Megha Gongireddy.  “Instead of reading a textbook."

This week is national earth science week.
