CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Police have identified the woman who was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed Thursday night on Lancaster Highway.

Police said it appears Joline Almineur Glover, 35, was trying to beat traffic across the heavily traveled highway when she was hit.

Police said Glover darted in front of a northbound 2009 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by a 38-year-old woman about 6:05 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of the truck had stopped for a traffic signal on U.S. 521 (Lancaster Highway) at Ardrey Kell Road and was accelerating after the light turned green.

That's when Glover tried to dash across the highway, according to police.

Glover died at the scene. Police say the truck driver was not injured.
