CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police are searching for a man they say wore a cowboy hat as he robbed a Ballantyne-area bank Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened around 3:30 p.m. at the RBC Bank on Ballantyne Village Way, just off Johnston Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The suspect did not show a gun during the robbery, police said. Surveillance photos released by police show a man entering and leaving the bank apparently wearing a dark jacket, sunglasses and a straw cowboy hat with red stitching.

Police said the suspect is a white male who is between about 5-feet-6 and 5-feet-7 and has a medium build.

Police did not say what, if any, amount of money the suspect was able to take.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
