CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A News 14 Carolina reporter was in the hospital late Wednesday after being struck at an intersection in Dilworth that was was darkened after storm power outages.

Reporter Caroline Vandergriff was in stable condition late Wednesday at Carolinas Medical Center-Main, said Jim Newman, news director at News 14 Carolina.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and East Morehead Street in Charlotte.

A witness said the female reporter was standing on the sidewalk with her video camera just before 9:30 p.m. when the two cars crashed in the intersection. One of the cars slid across the sidewalk where she was filming, causing her body to fly into the air and land nearby, the witness said.

Medic responded and transported her to CMC-Main.

The crash witness said the victim was alert and talking while they waited for Medic to arrive.

The Dilworth intersection where the crash occurred was one of several across the city that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had responded to Wednesday night as a result of power outages caused by heavy winds and rain that swept through the area.
