CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman who was hit by a van in the Cotswold neighborhood of south Charlotte Wednesday morning has died from her injuries, and charges against the driver responsible are pending.

Medic responded shortly before 10 a.m. to the 400 block of North Sharon Amity Road at the intersection of Addison Road.  A white van was making a left turn at the intersection and hit Marianne Oberg, 62, at the crosswalk while she was walking with her husband.

Oberg was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with a head injury and died at 3 p.m.  Her husband was not hurt.

The 20-year-old man driving the van owned by Garcia's Painting was questioned by police, but he has not been arrested.  Police say charges are pending.

Crime scene investigators blocked off the intersection for more than two hours to collect evidence. The roadway reopened shortly after noon Wednesday.

Another company van was parked near the scene. Two witnesses stopped at the intersection were also questioned by police.

Officials said speed and alcohol are not factors in the incident.
