GASTONIA, N.C. -- Two people were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries following a single-vehicle crash on Christmas Eve morning.
The Gastonia Fire Department responded to the 1900 block of Davis Park Road for a crash with an entrapment.
Authorities say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, slammed into a tree stump and overturned.
One of the vehicle's two occupants was trapped inside, requiring fireman to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the victim. The victim was extracted through the rear window of the wrecked vehicle. The other passenger was able to escape on their own, officials say.
Both victims were taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with injuries officials described as life threatening.
