GASTONIA, N.C. -- Armed robbers wearing ski masks have struck three times in less than a week in Gastonia.
In the latest incident, one person was shot in the leg and is recovering in the hospital.
The most recent robbery happened outside a home on Monday night where the woman inside saw the suspects and called 911.
"I looked out the window and there was some dude out there with a big machine gun," the woman told 911.
The voice on the 911 call is of a frantic mother who lives in the targeted home on North Oakwood Street. As she was inside with her children, she saw two men in ski masks outside her window.
"There are two of them hollering at me to open the door. I'm not opening the door," said the woman.
The 911 operator then asked her if they both had machine guns, and she replied, yes. The woman tells 911 her boyfriend was outside and she just heard a gunshot.
Gastonia police say this is the third of a string of armed robberies with the same suspect’s description.
"The heights, the weights, the masks they're wearing, their mannerisms and the weapons used kind of coincide," said Sgt. Jimmy Arndt with Gastonia police.
The first robbery was at Patriots Apartments on Thursday, and then on Saturday, police say two masked men robbed a man in a room here at Mid-Town Motor Inn.
"I wouldn't say it's all tied to drugs but there's a possibility is it tied to drugs in some way," said Sgt. Arndt.
Now police say they want to stop these masked men before anyone else is injured or even worse, killed.
"The violence seems to be escalating, so we're doing what we can to get it solved and stop the violence," said Sgt. Arndt.
Gastonia police are asking anyone who sees anything suspicious, including two men with ski masks, to call Gastonia police.
