Gastonia man faces murder charge in fatal stabbing

GASTONIA, N.C. -- A Gastonia man is facing first degree murder following the stabbing death of a man on Wednesday night.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to the 2900 block of Ebony Avenue for a reported stabbing. Officers found 49-year-old David Colbert, of Gastonia, lying in the roadway bleeding from the neck.

The suspect, Steve Neely, 56, of Gastonia, was on the scene waiting for officers to arrive, and surrendered.

Police say Neely and Colbert were acquaintances.

Colbert was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he died on Thursday morning.

Neely is charged with first degree murder.
