GASTONIA, N.C. – Folks in Gastonia are working hard to bring their downtown back to life.

The latest push is a group of artists all working under one roof and inviting the public in to watch.

“People are astonished when they walk in here,” said Rachel Cotton, an illustrator and artist.

Arts On Main features a gallery, a gift shop and two dozen artists’ studios, and visitors can watch as they create.

“People come in and they're just shocked.  They just can’t believe it,” water colorist Lorene Lovell said.

“I think it’s just inspiring, uplifting and something that hasn't been here for awhile,” Cotton added.

The artists also double as volunteers running the place.  Their hope is that if you bring the arts to Main Street, the people will come.

“Downtown has been in such need of revitalization efforts. We’re kind of helping that. They come to eat, come look at art,” Cotton added.
