GASTONIA, N.C. -- Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after their SUV crashed into a power pole.

The Gastonia Fire Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Gaston Avenue and Franklin Boulevard just before noon to find an SUV had crashed into a power pole, breaking the pole and bringing down the power lines.

Then, authorities say a tractor trailer drove through the intersection and snagged some of the dangling power lines, breaking another power pole in several places.

Mid-afternoon Wednesday, the intersection remained closed for repairs.

The SUV's two occupants were transported to a nearby hospital. Their names and conditions have not yet been released.
