GASTONIA, N.C. -- A Gaston County mother is suing the repeat drunk driver who crashed into her teenage daughter, killing her in 2010.
Howard Pasour was driving under the influence in July 2010 when he crashed into a car which 17-year-old Laura Fortenberry was riding in.
Pasour already had three previous DWI convictions.
Fortenberry's mother, Michelle Armstrong, claims in the lawsuit filed March 9 that Pasour acted recklessly and so did his parents for allowing him to drive on a revoked license.
The wrongful death complaint asks for a jury trial and claims the parents were aware of Pasour's record and drinking problem, but he was still allowed to drive.
Last summer "Laura’s Law" went into effect. It increases jail time for repeat DWI offenders.
Pasour pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in 2011 and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
