GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia police arrested a man accused of killing a woman and injuring a teenager in a shooting Wednesday night.

Police charged Mark Eric Collins with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder after he allegedly fired a gun into a crowd standing in an apartment courtyard on North Webb Street.

Police said  43-year-old Theresa Sanders died at the scene from a gunshot wound. The 15-year-old, a sophomore at Ashbrook High School, was shot in the arm and taken to a local hospital, according to police.

Relatives told NewsChannel 36 she is expected to make a full recovery.

"He said 'Someone has got to die' and just started shooting," said Sanders' sister, Tarsha Mankin. "Theresa was not his target."

Police took Collins and a second man into custody Wednesday night after the shooting. Collins is the only one who has been charged in this case so far, according to police.

Two other people were arrested after an unrelated fight broke out following the shooting.
