GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a Gastonia woman is accused of speeding on Interstate 85 and for driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
The Gaston Gazette reports that a state Highway Patrol trooper stopped 20-year-old Catherine Marie Cobb Tuesday morning on I-85 south near N.C. 273 because she was driving at 97 mph in a 60-mph zone.
The trooper said he smelled alcohol and noticed the woman had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes.
Cobb blew a 0.14 on a test. North Carolina law considers a driver impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher.
Cobb was released on a $500 unsecured bond on charges of driving while impaired, underage drinking and speeding. It wasn't immediately known if she had an attorney.
