GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Dispatch in Gaston County began fielding calls from threatened residents of an armed man who was knocking on doors and then tried to stop a school bus.
Gaston County Police say the "extremely impaired" man, identified as 42-year-old Jeffrey Ray Lewis, knocked on doors to numerous homes on Saddlewood Drive, south of Gastonia.
Then Lewis attempted to stop a school bus carrying elementary school students, police say.
Police arrived on scene, found Lewis, and arrested and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, resist, delay and obstruct a police officer and impeding a school bus.
Authorities say Lewis was carrying a black cell phone which may have been mistaken for a weapon, as Lewis was not carrying a weapon at the time of his arrest.
His bond is set at $10,000.
