GASTONIA, N.C. -- Crews are on scene in Gastonia investigating an officer-involved shooting.

Police say the incident started around 4 p.m. in the 1600 block of South York Road.

The shooting stemmed from a traffic stop, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Police say Larry Dean Kitchin, 37, charged at two officers in a stolen truck. He allegedly hit an officer’s car before fleeing the scene.

The officers followed him briefly until Kitchin wrecked the truck. He then ran away on foot. Police caught up to him with a K-9 unit and took the suspect into custody.

An officer fired a shot during the incident but the suspect was not hit. The officer suffered minor injuries when Kitchin struck his patrol car.

The incident is under investigation.

Kitchinis charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, larceny of a motor vehicle, kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
