GASTONIA, N.C. – A couple says they live in fear after two masked men robbed them at gun point in their Gastonia apartment.
“I felt so helpless,” said Starr Brown as she sat on her couch next to her husband, Jeffrey. “I could live on the streets, but I couldn’t live without him.”
The Browns, who live in an apartment on Stroupe Road, said they got a call from their son’s ex-girlfriend, who said she was coming over. They said that when she arrived she walked in their second floor apartment and then said that she forgot something, grabbed her purse and walked out, but left the door ajar.
“It couldn’t have been more than seconds after she walked out. Them two men wearing those masks burst in,” said Jeffrey.
The couple said both men wore Halloween type masks and hoodies, and both carried sawed off shotguns. The Brown’s told police that one man threw Jeffrey to the floor and held a gun to his head and the other pushed down Starr and held down with a shotgun.
“He didn’t point it at me. He just held it across my face,” she said.
The Brown’s said that they gave the two all their cash and Jeffrey’s pain medication for his broken back. They said the two men also stole their apartment and car keys and made off.
The Browns said that they have since had to change their apartment locks and get a new key made for their car.
But they say they don’t know if they will ever be safe again in their place and they have yet to hear from their son’s ex-girlfriend.
“I just think she got hooked up with the wrong crowd,” said Jeffrey.
Police said they are still investigating the incident.
