GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Fire crews helped a motorist escape a car fire that erupted after the vehicle struck a tree.
Around 8:30 Thursday morning, Gaston EMS and Crowder's Mountain Fire and Rescue responded to the scene in the 1100 block of Sparrow Springs Road.
Authorities say the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, lost control and struck a tree. The crash caused the car to go up in flames.
Crews worked to free the motorist from the vehicle, then extinguished the flames.
The motorist, who has not been identified, was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
None of the eight first responders were injured during the rescue.
