HICKORY, N.C. -- The City of Hickory lifted a request for water conversation following a string of storms.
The Public Utilities Department says heavy rain and swift flowing streams changed the chemistry of the water. The city slowed down water production to ensure the water coming into the treatment facility could be properly treated and distributed.
City officials rescinded the voluntary request Tuesday. It applied to Hickory, Conover, Claremont, Brookford, the Town of Catawba, the Sherrill’s Ford area, Icard Water Corporation and parts of Alexander County.
Water produced during the weeks since the conservation request was safe, according to the city.
