HICKORY, N.C. -- The Catawba County Sheriff, Coy Reid, says there will be extra security in place when Elisa Baker is expected to enter a plea agreement in the death of her stepdaughter Zahra Baker Thursday morning.
Adam Baker, the girl's father, is expected to be in the courtroom as is her biological mother who is coming from Australia where Zahra was born.
That sets the stage for the three of them to be in the same room together, face to face, for the first time.
“We don't expect trouble. We haven't received any threats but we are not going to take any chances," Reid said.
Extra deputies will be posted in the courtroom and Reid said a second metal detector would be placed at the courtroom door in addition to the one already in place at the front entrance.
"A lot of people have heard about it (the case) and are curious about the outcome and want to see it in person," Reid said. "So we expect a large crowd.”
Elisa Baker is charged with second degree murder and obstruction of justice.
An autopsy failed to determine an exact cause of death. The medical Examiner's report listed the cause as "undetermined homicidal violence."
