HICKORY, N.C. -- The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said items were stolen from a Zahra Baker memorial off of the road where her remains were found in 2010.
Deputies said a statue made of concrete was taken from the memorial off of Christy Road along with other items.
Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker, was sentenced to 15 to 18 years in prison in September after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and other charges in her stepdaughter's 2010 death.
This incident happened just a few weeks after the city of Hickory started building the Zahra Baker All Children's Playground.
The newly constructed playground is 90-by-60-foot oval, filled with slides, swings and other equipment to run on. In total, about 200 kids will be able to play on it at the same time.
Deputies said they do not have any suspects at this time.
