LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- A domestic dispute forced a Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy to use his weapon on Sunday night.

Deputies said they received a call around 11:45 p.m. Sunday about a disturbance at a home off Frontier Lane. When deputies arrived at the home Jonathan Robert Pearson, 32, was seen running from the scene.

Deputies gave chase and noticed Pearson was holding his hand in his waistband and had something concealed in his hands, according to the police report.

Deputies instructed him to show his hands but Pearson pulled his left hand holding the shiny object out of the waistband and pointed it back toward the officer.  The deputy removed his service weapon and fired two shots at Pearson but neither bullet struck him, according to the police report.

Authorities said they were eventually able to track down Pearson and take him into custody. The deputies said Pearson was highly intoxicated and admitted he had been taking drugs.

The object Pearson had in his waistband turned out to be keys, deputies said.

Pearson was charged with one count of assault on a female by a male over 18 years of age, two counts of resist, delay, and obstruct a public officer and one count of interfering with emergency communication.

Pearson was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond.
