LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincolnton man was arrested Wednesday after police found hundreds of dollars of counterfeit money in his car.
A woman helped police find Jovan Brooks after she said Brooks stole $3,350 from her. With the woman’s help, police pulled Brooks’ car over. He admitted to both taking money from the woman and knowing some of the cash was counterfeit.
The money was found on the floorboard of the car in two big bundles of cash. One bundle was $2,539, and the second bundle totaled $560. But that second bundle contained counterfeit cash that had a different texture and color but the same serial number.
Brooks has been charged with felony forgery of a bank note and misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. He was released on a $5,000 bond. Charges are pending on stealing the money from the woman.
