CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- One homeowner had a rude-awakening early Thursday morning.
Around 2 a.m., Wendy Magee-Hagen says she heard a massive crash below her on her home on Plantation Drive in the Providence Plantation neighborhood.
She rushed downstairs, and found her SUV damaged, her garage door destroyed, and a dazed man standing in the middle of it all, staring at her.
"I saw half a car just coming out of there," explained Magee-Hagen. "I thought, 'What's going on? How did my car get out the garage?' Everything is locked. I couldn't figure it out because I saw lights in the driveway, and so I peaked [through the window] and I said, 'Oh somebody went right through my garage door.'"
Magee-Hagen says she called 9-1-1. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrived shortly after her call, and started piecing together what took place. Police say a 20-year-old man had been drinking and driving.
He got disoriented and crashed straight into Magee-Hagen's garage, thinking it was his own home. Investigators say they're charging the driver with DWI.
Magee-Hagen says she's not sure how much damage was done. She's still waiting for insurance adjusters to arrive at her home to determine whether there was any structural damage.
The driver's name has not yet been released. No one was injured in the crash.
