MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A man faces charges for allegedly stabbing an acquaintance after partying together all night in Matthews.

Justin Scott Thompson, 26, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Police say a group of people were partying at a home on Campus Ridge Road near the Central Piedmont Community College Levine campus.

Sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. Thursday, Thompson got into an argument with 28-year-old Dwight Green and stabbed him. Matthews Police say there were six people in the house at the time. The other four were asleep, but woke up when they heard screams. Green was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

A cousin said Green was stabbed once in the side and once in the leg.

"I hope he's okay. He's in surgery, so I hope he's okay," said Mandy Mulhearn.

Investigators say the victim was alert and conscious while being transported to the emergency room.
