CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Several neighborhoods in the surrounding Charlotte area are taking part in National Night Out Tuesday.
The annual National Night Out is a crime drug prevention event where people will come together to meet each other and help police take a stand against crime.
The point is for neighbors to meet one another and talk to police, and to develop ideas on crime prevention. Another goal is to strengthen the police-community relationships.
Last year's campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states and Canadian cities and military bases worldwide, according to its website.
Over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.
NewsChannel 36 will have reporters out at several National Night Out events bring you updates of what is going on in certain neighborhoods.
