MATTHEWS, N.C. – A Butler High School bus driver found a surprising passenger Monday afternoon.
The driver was heading to the school to begin the after school route when she noticed a raccoon on the bus. The raccoon showed signs of being rabid and was quickly forced off the bus around 2:30 p.m.
A resource officer was alerted and school security was able to chase the animal down.
A Matthews police officer shot the animal in a nearby wooded area. Officials will know in a day or two whether the raccoon had rabies.
