CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Investigators are working to identify human remains that were found in north Charlotte Thursday morning.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the remains were found in a wooded area on a service road between Interstate 485 and Statesville Road.
Officers were called to the scene at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police confirmed that the remains were human, but detectives were not able to determine the person's gender, age or race.
The remains were taken to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death and approximate date of death.
Police say detectives from the homicide and missing persons units are working on the case.
