CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police say a 28-year-old man killed his girlfriend Wednesday night, and then carjacked and kidnapped someone at Northlake Mall.
Officers were called to a home on Summerour Place in west Charlotte at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and found 28-year-old Pamela Garmon shot to death.
Witnesses told police that Jamar Springs had fled the scene in a Cadillac.
About 10 minutes later, police received a report of a carjacking and kidnapping at Northlake Mall. According to police reports, Springs attempted to steal a pickup truck from a man and his girlfriend leaving the Northlake Mall’s movie theatre. The driver of that pickup truck sped off. When he returned home, he says he found a bullet hole in the driver’s side of the truck.
However, a few minutes later, police say Springs forced himself into the car of another driver. 20 year old Kee Vang was driving inside.
"He just was staying on the parking lot,” said Vang’s father.
“Then a guy just came and put a gun to him, and took him somewhere else."
Springs ended up in Huntersville where he fled on foot on Sam Furr Road.
Officers from several different law enforcement agencies set up a perimeter in the area and were able to arrest Springs.
Garmon's family members said that Garmon and Springs had not been together long, and they didn't know of any troubles in the relationship.
"We did not see this coming," said Garmon's cousin, Semika. "I would have never thought in a million years that Pam would be gone. ... She was a good person. Anybody that she could help out, she would. That's why I don't understand why he would kill her."
Springs is charged with murder, attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
