CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The new Harris Teeter in Plaza Midwood is officially open.
The Matthews based grocery store held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning and many residents were eager to get their first peak of the new store.
The new building is actually the relocation site of the first Harris Grocery in 1936. The first store was just down the road on Central Avenue, before taking the current spot several years later.
According to the grocery chain, architects and designers worked hard to make the building blend in Plaza Midwood. Shoppers say they've been watching the construction with anticipation.
Shopper Keith Maravich said, "it's nice, I think it kind of fits in with Plaza Midwood. They kind of took in consideration some of the other buildings nearby."
According to local resident Ruby Stockton, "it's wonderful to have one close by. You don't have to go so far to get your groceries."
