CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was another warm day in the Carolinas with temperatures reaching into the low to mid-80s. Showers and storms started to develop around 1PM this afternoon and they have become more numerous thoughout the afternoon and now into the early evening. Some of the storms this evening will produce heavy rain, lightning and small hail. The storms have been scattered across the Newschannel 36 viewing area. The coverage of the showers and storms have been about 50%.

Monday's powerful storm cell caused some damages in the area. A tree crashed down on top of a car with a mother and her young son inside in the  Plaza Midwood neighborhood.

Charlotte firefighters were able to help them escape without any injuries.

At the height of the Monday's storms, Duke Energy was reporting more than 7,700 power outages, more than half of them in Mecklenburg County.

Temperatures will climb into the mid 80s by the end of this week, and upper 80s to near 90 possible by the holiday weekend.
