ROCK HILL, S.C. -- A man was killed and his father was seriously burned after a tractor accident involving a power pole in Rock Hill Monday morning.
Jason Roach, 31, was killed after a tractor he was on hit a power pole on S.C. Highway 324 in Rock Hill, according to York County emergency officials. Family said his father, Richard Roach, was shocked trying to save his only son's life by pushing him away from the machine.
The elder Roach was flown to Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia with serious injuries. Family members told Newschannel 36 Richard, a Vietnam veteran and Bronze Star recipient, suffered burns to his arms, legs and side. His condition was unavailable Monday night.
The Roach family farm is located on S.C. Highway 324 near Champion Road. Homes around the area were without power until late Monday evening. Duke Energy is conducting an investigation with the York County Sheriff's Office to determine exactly what happened.
