ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Dozens of 4- and 5-year-olds braved the morning chill to welcome a special visitor weeks before his normal arrival. And just one look in their eyes and you could tell they had no problem being out on Main Street in Old Town Rock Hill instead of playing inside on this day.

“I’m waiting on Santa,” said one little girl.

“San-ta, San-ta, San-ta,” they exclaimed as they got more excited the closer old St. Nick got to the ground. Instead of coming in on the back of a sleigh driven by reindeer, Santa skydived on the grass near Main Street to the cheers of dozens of happy children.

Santa came to signal the beginning of ChristmasVille.  This is the sixth year of the annual event which brings activities for the whole family to enjoy.

There will be an ice skating rink, snow festival, Santa’s Workshop and the jingle bells parade. On Thursday there will also be the official start of ChristmasVille with the lighting of the village.

“We estimated that economic impact last year of over $990,000 for this four day event,” said Candy Clapp the Executive Director of ChristmasVille.  “(It) puts a lot of money into the hotels and restaurants and just the economy in all.”
