YORK, S.C. (AP) -- A former Winthrop basketball player accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and received probation.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported that former center Julius Francis pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree assault and battery and disturbing schools.
The Nigerian native received six months of probation.
Another former Winthrop player, Robert Dreher, pleaded guilty in July to second-degree assault and battery and received one year of probation.
Police say an 18-year-old woman was outside a dorm room yelling that she had been molested in April of 2011. She refused help then, but campus officers were called the next day by a Greenville hospital nurse who said the same woman reported a sexual assault.
