ROCK HILL, S.C. – Rock Hill police said they are not getting help from some people who were involved in a shooting at a popular shopping center in the middle of the city Monday afternoon.
It happened before 4 p.m., right in the middle of a busy parking lot.
"I've been here for 16 years and never known that type of incident to occur," said Lt. Brad Redfearn of the Rock Hill Police Department "In broad daylight inside a populated parking lot within the city of Rock Hill."
Some of the people who heard the shots and then saw the aftermath say they won't soon forget what they saw.
“We see a guy run out of the Jersey Mike’s and he takes off down there...I guess someone had taken his car,” said Shelby Bessette, who works at Ultra Tan right across the parking lot from the Jersey Mike’s. “It was very, very, frightening.”
Detectives said witnesses told them that two cars, a silver Crown Victoria followed by a black Land Rover, fled the scene.
“Two groups were shooting at each other,” said Redfearn. “We are still looking into the cause.”
Witnesses told NewsChannel 36 that they heard what sounded like three or four shots.
Police found four shell casings in the parking lot and spoke with more than a dozen witnesses.
Officers later found the Land Rover and actually caught up with a person who they said was involved, but that person was not helpful and did not provide any information to help with the case.
“People need to know that they can call us and report any crime anonymously,” said Lt. Redfearn.
