CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte woman is charged with attempted murder for allegedly kidnapping a baby after she had been faking a pregnancy for the last several months.
Police said Andrea Endara-Paredes, 24, convinced a mother of two young children to take a ride to an apartment complex in SouthPark at the intersection of Providence and Fairview roads where Andrea-Paredes lived with her boyfriend.
While there, Endara-Paredes allegedly kidnapped the mother's 1-month-old baby. She then got back into a car, beat the victim with a tire iron, sprayed her with pepper spray and tried to kill her, police said.
Endara-Paredes then drove the mother of two back to her home at the Beacon Ridge Apartments off South Boulevard and kept the baby, police said.
During the incident the mother was allegedly told by Endara-Paredes to tell police she was kidnapped by two black men who also took her child, but officers said that story quickly did not add up. The mother's 4-year-old child was not kidnapped.
After finding Endara-Paredes’ home, officers found the baby unharmed at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police believe the woman had been faking a pregnancy for the last nine months and went as far as having a baby shower and telling her boyfriend she was pregnant.
Endara-Paredes is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a child under 12, and three counts of first degree kidnapping.
