CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- At least 15 stores at SouthPark Mall remain closed after heavy rain caused a partial roof collapse 10 days ago.

The GAP and Banana Republic received the heaviest damage during the storm on July 20.  On Monday both stores were under major construction with the store front blocked from the public.

Other stores remained closed include:

  • Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Gymboree
  • Brighton
  • Swaroski
  • True Religion
  • Solstice
  • Pottery Barn
  • Justice
  • United Colors of Benetton
  • Vera Bradley
  • Godiva
  • Aldo
  • Art of Shaving
  • Bebe

Emergency crews evacuated the mall after the roof collapse and there were no reported injuries, according to Medic.

Images from inside the mall showed a couple inches of water on the floor. There were also reported vehicles that were flooded at the SouthPark Mall parking lot.

AirStar 36 flew over the mall and two large holes could be seen in the roof.  On Monday, AirStar 36 flew over the mall again and crews were working to repair the roof.

Some of the stores that have reopened still have signs of damage.  A fan was still blowing on the floor of Nine West and the floor at the entrance to Ann Taylor was buckled. A posted sign warns customers to watch their step.

It’s not clear when all of the stores will reopen.
