Officer hit by stray bullet on New Year's Eve

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was struck by a stray bullet shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officer William Johnson was responding to a call at an apartment complex on Waterford Lakes Drive around midnight when he felt something hit his shoulder as he exited his car.

A bullet landed on top of his shoulder, and Johnson was taken to the hospital as a precautionary.

Johnson, who is with the Steele Creek Division, has not missed any work due to the incident, according to CMPD.
