CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Officials have arrested a man in connection with a house fire in Steele Creek on Friday in which a woman was injured.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say Ryan Lee Capps, 22, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault on a handicapped person, sexual battery and first degree arson in connection to this case.

The female victim who was injured in the house fire early Friday morning in the Steele Creek neighborhood is expected to survive, officials said Monday.  The woman was pulled from her burning home by firefighters.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. at 10345 Walkers Ferry Road near the Charlotte airport.

"Firefighters entered the structure and began to battle the fire, when personnel found a female victim laying in the floor of one of the bedrooms and rescued her from the burning home," said the West Mecklenburg Volunteer Fire Department in a statement.

The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover.

It took 25 firefighters more than 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, and the home sustained $80,000 in damages.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
