CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Charlotte basketball coach Alan Major has announced the signing of 5-11 point guard Denzel Ingram from Chapel Hill to a national letter of intent to play for the 49ers.
Ingram is the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association 3-A Basketball Player of the Year. He averaged 23.9 points, 7.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 steals as a senior at Chapel Hill High School, where he finished with 1,570 points.
A first-team all-state selection and an Associated Press all-state choice, Ingram was also named the 3-A basketball player of the year by NCPreps.com. The Carolina 6 Conference champion Tigers went 26-2, including a perfect 25-0 record during the regular season.
Major calls Ingram "a proven winner" who can make his teammates better.
