CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Nearly 14,000 fans attended the Charlotte 49ers inaugural spring football game at the school's new 15,300-seat stadium.
Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was among those in attendance Saturday as the Green team beat the White 26-3. Quarterback Matt Johnson was 13 of 14 for 174 yards and a touchdown.
Charlotte athletic director Judy Rose called it a "phenomenal" day in 49ers history with more school pride on display than any time in her 38 years at the school.
Charlotte showed off its pristine stadium complex that includes a 46,000-square-foot football center with a state-of-the-art training facility.
The 49ers begin their first season Aug. 31 against Campbell as an independent and move to Conference USA and the higher Football Bowl Subdivision level in 2015.
