CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One man was rushed to a Charlotte hospital after overdosing on heroin before seeing the movie 'Ted' with friends.
The 22-year-old Indian Land man lost consciousness while consuming heroin in the parking lot of Starlight Cinemas at 11240 North Tryon Street in north Charlotte around 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report.
The report states the man "wanted to consume heroin before going in to see the movie 'Ted.'"
Witnesses drove the man to Carolinas Medical Center University.
The man was hospitalized, and charges have not yet been filed.
The Universal Pictures movie about a talking teddy bear debuted at number one on the box office, with $54.1 million in sales its first weekend.
The movie's opening was the third-highest R-rated comedy debut, behind last year's "Hangover 2" ($85.9 million) and 2010's "Sex and the City 2" ($57 million), but it was the biggest ever R-rated non-sequel comedy opening.
"Ted" stars Wahlberg as a guy whose stuffed bear magically came to life when he was a boy, the two growing up together to become slacker, party-boy roommates. Writer-director Seth MacFarlane, the creator of TV's "Family Guy," provides the voice of the bear, while "Family Guy" voice co-star Mila Kunis plays Wahlberg's girlfriend.
