CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A UNC Charlotte sophomore was taken to Carolinas Medical Center after being struck by a car near campus Tuesday morning.

The accident happened on University City Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

A silver Honda at the scene had extensive damage to its front end and the windshield was shattered.

UNC Charlotte officials identified the student as Raven Williams. Williams suffered a broken leg in the accident, but is expected to recover.

Police are investigating the accident.
