CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Federal and local officials are opening an anti-gang program in Charlotte.
The Justice Department says the "Gang of One" program will open in the Greenville neighborhood center in Charlotte on Friday. U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins and Assistant Attorney General Laurie Robinson are to be on hand for the grand opening.
The anti-violence program is designed to prevent young people from joining gangs. It also offers intervention support to young people who want to leave gangs.
The program will provide job readiness skills. Leadership training and a culinary arts program sponsored by Johnson & Wales University.
