UNION COUNTY, N.C. – The owner of two pit bulls that attacked and killed a 5-year-old girl in January has been indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of restraint of animals.
Michael Gordon is scheduled to appear in court on May 15 on those charges.
Makayla Woodard was killed and her grandmother, Nancy Presson, was injured when the two dogs attacked them in their own yard on January 12. According to Makayla’s family, the dogs bit the young girl more than 200 times.
Makayla’s family started a petition for tougher laws to ban pit bulls or force owners to register.
