WAXHAW, N.C. -- The fourth annual Unison Music Festival will take place this Saturday at Cuthbertson High School.

The 7 p.m. performance will feature some of the county's most talented fifth graders in the chorus, recorder ensemble and Orff instrument ensemble.

The festival is co-chaired by Jodi McConkey from Sardis Elementary School, Rebecca Vickers from Rock Rest Elementary School, and Christine Wilson from New Town Elementary School.

Participating students are chosen by their music teacher in recognition of their talent, dedication and passion for music. Teachers and students work together to prepare the music, and on the day of the festival it all comes together!  The ensembles meet for seven hours of rehearsal time when the final touches are completed.  Then, at 7 p.m., the big moment… Concert time!

This year's performance features Lynn Mitchell of Sun Valley High School (formerly of Sun Valley Elementary School) directing the Orff ensemble and Christine Wilson of New Town Elementary School directing the recorder ensemble.

Choral conductors are Kristin Hinds of Stallings Elementary School, Melissa LoPresto of Sandy Ridge Elementary School, Jessica Luedeman of Kensington Elementary School, Jodi McConkey of Sardis Elementary School, and David Wieland of Rocky River Elementary School. Special accompaniment on guitar will also be featured by Doug Russell of Weddington Elementary School and Jeremy Ryder of Waxhaw Elementary School.
